STEM Education: Way towards Bright Future

The education system has always been a matter of concern for the nation. Education is the sword against all the existing problems, as it provides knowledge to an individual. There are many approaches to educating people. One of such approaches is the approach of STEM education.

STEM education is changing the procedure of learning and engaging students to learn through experiences as well as it is bringing positive change to the method of science subjects taught as well. STEM Education suggests and directs students to learn through experiences which will sharpen their memory as it will stay in their mind for long as compared to what they have read or heard once. As nothing ever can be remembered for long till it is experienced, this method of learning is way much better than the study chalk and board system because this method provides learning and experience hand in hand. India is now focusing on the modern approach of education, i.e. STEM education as well as on STEM jobs.

Increasing Demand and Trend of STEM education

Traditional methods of studying Science, technology, engineering and mathematics is limited to the board-chalk, which is not encouraging students to innovate something. To fulfil an essential responsibility of building the future the teachers, schools and colleges play a significant role.

The lesson provided by teachers on these subjects does not encourage people for critical thinking. STEM Learning is helping students to use techniques to solve the problem and applying skills to real-world scenarios. This type of STEM learning is the need of the hour for the nation, as traditional methods of learning were limited to textbooks and exam-focused models, whereas STEM education has an unlimited arena.

Technology has been expanding for a very long time, so it is somehow necessary that the child has to be taught for the nation's overall growth. STEM education promotes innovation, creativity, skill development and development of future jobs in the field.

In future, jobs will only consist of STEM-based jobs. As the countries are competing in the field of innovations, India has lacked in this race. So the country is highly demanding for STEM education.

Technology fascinates the student, and they get attracted to innovative technological techniques. The study, through the method of STEM education, will encourage students to learn. The demand for STEM education has increased as it promotes students towards project-based learning, challenge-based learning, integration and active learning. The difference between the traditional approach of learning and approach of STEM learning is:

  • It engages students in the concept as teaching by models helps them to provide a hand-in-hand experience of the topic.
  • It raises questions in the mind of students.
  • When a teacher teaches by just reading the text, then it forces students to imagine the scenario. This method confuses the student, and it also bars him/her from skill-based learning.
  • STEM education helps students to learn, understand and analyze through diagrams and designs.
  • The traditional approach promotes passive learning, whereas the modern approach of STEM learning encourages students for interactive learning.
  • Innovative methods grab the attention of students and the interest of students. This method shifts its focus on innovative learning.

Also, the government of India is encouraging STEM learning as well as in the present scenario, and the STEM jobs are also available at a very high rate. The government has set up various labs focusing on STEM education in educational institutes.

The demand for STEM education has been increased in India due to the influence of artificial intelligence as well as STEM learning creates next-generation innovators. STEM education and STEM jobs are increasing in parallel methods. STEM plays a significant role in filling the talent gap between the education provided in school and the future.

Changing Dimension of STEM education in India

The United States of America and China are considered to be popular in STEM education technological advancement worldwide. India has always been on top ranking in producing graduates, but India has not come up with a high rank in this area of providing STEM jobs and STEM education.

In 2016, there was only 6% percent of skilled talents in India in STEM education which suddenly increased double in number in 2018. This ratio caught the attention of the government, which resulted in the establishment of labs for STEM learning in the schools, colleges and other educational institutes. By amending the approach of learning India is promoting STEM education, and the ratio of STEM jobs has always been increased. Now the students are taught by STEM subjects in their early age which subsequently equals to building a bright future for them. However, these initiatives will also help countries to grow in socio-economic fields and introducing children to the STEM subjects is necessary at an early age.

Conclusion

This approach of STEM education would obviously lead to the bright future of the students as it shifts their interest from the textbooks to the practical method of learning which would further help in inventing new ideas for any particular concept. The practical observation of the learning encourages students to ask their doubts at the same point of time when the concept is discussed. It is surely a way to a bright future as it deals with interactive learning and the experience gained by students leads in building confidence. The scope of STEM education is not limited but has a wide range of scope in future.

STEM education guarantees job security, as the STEM jobs are always available for the students because the coming era is related to the STEM subjects. As Science is present everywhere in the environment, the present era and upcoming era is of technology, and engineering designs are hand-on activities. Mathematics has always been a highlight of the practical concept. So these are the subjects to prevail irrespective of any scenario conclusively states STEM subjects will always mark their presence in the future. It proves that STEM jobs will always prevail in future and will provide a meaningful contribution in the growth of the nation worldwide.
